Despite a dip in the annual solar PV installations in 2024, South Africa added 1,602 MW of solar PV in the year 2025, representing a 44.4% year-on-year increase compared to the 1,108 MW. While the 2025 installations are still below the 2,430 MW peak reached in 2023, the rebound reflects renewed momentum across both utility and distributed segments. This positions South Africa to maintain its leadership as Africa's largest solar market heading into 2026.
