Based on a three-year average (2022-2024), Sweden's production was predominantly wood chips, while Germany's was approximately two-thirds wood chips and the remainder bagasse. These shows the production value share of each of the five commodities (carrier types): pellets, wood production in the EU was EUR 7749 million. In 2024, pellets accounted for 48% of the total value, corresponding to E3.7 billion. Wood chips came in second with 35% of the total value, corresponding to EUR 2.7 billion. Bagasse ranked third with a 10% share of the total value, followed by wood chips conf with 4% and charcoal with 3%.
